On October 6, 1906, YMCA's Dr.Wilis D. Weatherford rented a horse and buggy and drove from Asheville, North Carolina to Black Mountain. He was looking for a confernce center site where groups could meet in an inspirational setting surrounded by the mountainous grandeur of God's creation. After hiking up the mountainside, Dr.Weatherford climbed a tree to look around. Viewing the beauty of the valley below and the mountsins beyond, he exclaimed, "Eureka,we have found it!" Thus, YMCA blue Ridge Assembly was born. Since then, Blue Ridge has hosted conferences for over half a million men, women, and young people from around the world.
